  • The new Velocita boots.

Designed to enhance the movement and flexibility of its user, the new Umbro Velocita will barely worry its sports shop shelf as one of the lightest boots in history, weighing just 165 grams.

Developed at one of the UK’s leading sports universities, Loughborough, Umbro’s latest offering is aimed at making movement at high speed easier.

Its design is striking, with the white and pink incredibly visceral but the camouflage option is certainly an acquired taste. The new colourways continue this trend of bright, bold design – which are startlingly good.

No stone has been left unturned in the creation of the boot.

From its flattened laces to resemble those of a runner’s spikes to the flexible outer sole that aims to make the natural movement of the foot more comfortable and increase traction between stud and pitch.

Extra benefits include increased stability and support for the foot and padding around the Achilles to improve protection of the heel.

The upper microfiber of the Umbro Velocita is also pimpled like a golf ball to enhance aero-dynamicity.

All in all, the boot is a triumph in manufacturing but, in a fiercely competitive market, they remain hard to stand out from their competitors.

Nonetheless, this is easily one of Umbro’s best boots in recent production.

    VERDICT – 7/10
A great offering from Umbro and an improvement on recent models but when you have a choice between this and the new Adidas and Nike products, the choice is a no-brainer. Encouraging from the company though.

    COST – Dhs500
