  • Abu Dhabi Harlequins Director of Rugby Chris Davies is confident his side won’t underestimate TOA Dubai on Friday evening despite their dramatic Gulf Top Six title win last weekend.

Quins pulled off a bonus-point win away at Dubai Exiles to pip Doha to the continental crown on points difference, but as the UAE Premiership season kicks off, Davies says the club will give their opponents the respect they deserve.

“I actually know a few of the TOA boys pretty well and they’ve got a good South Sea contingent and southern hemisphere guys so they’ll be mixing it up a fair bit,” Davies said.

“Obviously we’ve come across them in pre-season games and they’ve got a lot to offer. We never underestimate opposition at all and we do respect everyone that we come up against.

“It is difficult obviously but we’ve got to get the guys’ feet back on the ground and on with the job.”

The Abu Dhabi club could be presented with the Gulf Top Six trophy before kick-off at Zayed Sports City – with former flanker Jamie Clarke returning from Doha to be part of the celebrations.

Davies added: “Numbers have been really good, obviously getting a bit of success makes guys enthused and certainly that’s kicked on into this week and we’re back to basics focusing on the basic again.”

Elsewhere, Dubai Hurricanes and Exiles will both be in action at 7he Sevens, with the former taking on Al Ain Amblers while Jebel Ali Dragons face the Exiles.
