  • Future stars: Both the Exiles and Hurricanes will be hosting coaching classes for children.

The new year is barely a week old, but that hasn’t put off staff at 7he Sevens from organising some fun sporting activities for children this weekend.

Situated in Dubai, 7he Sevens Stadium Sports Complex will host the Dubai Hurricanes and Dubai Exiles rugby classes on Friday morning, while the latter also hold netball training classes for girls on the same day.

The popular Arsenal Soccer School classes are also on the same day as well as Saturdays, so activities on the purpose-built pitches will be on in full swing.

Matt Burn, Sports and Facility officer at 7he Sevens, said: “This will be a great day for young children as they will be able to take part in fun activities which is healthy and enjoyable. The training classes are linked to the respective clubs, and we are happy to hold the classes at The Sevens.

“These type of classes attract a large number of people and we will be expecting a lot of children to take part this Friday.”

The children (and parents) will have to be up early as all sessions will be held in the morning. With all classes, which will last one hour having different starting times, the six multi-purpose pitches will be buzzing with children from 8.30am until early afternoon.

Besides the Arsenal Soccer sessions, a 10-week course which is still open to individuals aged five to 18-year-olds, the Dubai Hurricanes and Dubai Exile classes are available to kids aged seven to 16-years of age.

Burn said those who take part will learn the basics of the sport.

He added: “The children will learn the basic skills of how the sport is played, learning the rules of the game and how those rules are implied during matches.”

Whilst all the action is taking place on the field, parents can sit back and enjoy the hospitality that The Sevens Stadium has to offer.

Although it may be a bit early to get a drink, Burn said there will be plenty to keep parents occupied.

“With these classes primarily aimed for children, the morning can be a social event for parents where they can get to know each other. They don’t have to go back home and return to pick up their children. Parents can also go to our swimming pool for a swim which will also be open on the Friday morning,” said Burn.

The children will surely have a good time and can benefit from the classes. Both Dubai Hurricanes and Dubai Exiles are big clubs in the region and share the same goal in helping children to develop their knowledge in rugby.

Meanwhile, Dubai Exiles’ decision to introduce netball has been a big success. The sport has received a huge interest since the club began their coaching classes in October 2011.

Each year, the number of participants has increased, with 90 girls joining the club to play last year. In the previous season, 65 children signed up for the exciting sport, which was first played in England in the 1890s.
