  • Playing on the big stage: Foa'i will return to the UAE to complete his studies after his spell in the UK.

Iziq Foa’i’s successful summer spell with English Premiership giants Harlequins has continued after he was included in the squad to play in the World Club 7s at Twickenham Stadium this weekend.

The Abu Dhabi Harlequins centre has spent the past fortnight with their London-based counterparts, being part of the squad in the Premiership 7s finals at The Stoop last Friday.

Despite being beaten 19-15 by Newport Gwent Dragons in the semi-finals, a game in which Foa’i featured for five minutes, they still managed to qualify for the upcoming global showpiece event.

The 19-year-old Abu Dhabi schoolboy subsequently travelled to the north west of England to begin a two-week spell with St Helens that will end with a trial at the rugby league club.

Prior to travelling to the Saints, the understanding was Foa’i would be allowed to feature for Quins on Saturday and Sunday if selected for the World Club 7s.

Foa’i has already agreed to return to complete his schooling in the UAE, a move backed by Quins, with a full-time professional contract someway off.

He spent a similar period with the club’s Elite Player Development Group last summer, but has been training alongside the likes of England internationals Chris Robshaw and Mike Brown this time.

Foa’i is expected to be available for Quins’ opening UAE Premiership match against Dubai Hurricanes on Friday, September 26.
