Dubai Hurricanes’ Leon Ferry to deliver match ball at Rugby World Cup game

  • Future star: 13-year-old Leon Ferry will deliver the match ball at the RWC game in Cardiff on September 1.

    Leon Ferry is the winner of the Rugby World Cup competition and will deliver the match ball at the Wales vs Fiji game in Cardiff on September 1.

    The 13-year-old Dubai Hurricanes utility back was drawn out of 600 players to win the once in a life time opportunity, run by DHL, official logistic partners of the Rugby World Cup.

     “It feels amazing, just to have the chance to go to a game where Wales are playing, and to see some of the best players in the world in action,” said Leon.

    “Leigh Halfpenny’s my favourite player so I’m really looking forward to seeing him live. His kicking and game in general is superb.”

    As well as playing for the ‘Canes, Leon lines-up for his school DESC where he’s been heavily involved since moving from Wales two years ago.

    'Canes were celebrating their end of year awards, with players from under-4 to under-16 rewarded for their efforts this season.

    “Leon is relentless. If he keeps working hard and keeps that positive mindset he’ll go on to do very well,” said Robin Giles, Director of Rugby at Hurricanes.

    “Were very lucky to be sponsored by DHL, it’s a great privilege – and it’s nice for Leon to win also.”

    Dubai Hurricanes were celebrating their end of year awards, with players from under-4 to under-16 rewarded for their efforts this season.

    “It’s been a long season but it’s great to have such a fantastic turn out and it’s great to celebrate the player’s achievements,” added Giles.
