So who makes up this week’s top five?

    1) LIONEL MESSI (Barcelona) – 7.90

A stunning brace of goals from Lionel Messi set up Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Levante and kept the Catalans top of La Liga. The Levante goalkeeper was peppered with 10 shots from Messi alone as the diminuative Argentinian looked back to his creative best. The only blott of his evening came with a missed penalty near the end.

    2) MARCO ASENSIO (Espanyol) – 7.75

A thrashing by Real Madrid last week prompted wholesale changes at Espanyol including the promotion of Marco Asensio to the starting XI. The attacking midfielder repaid Sergio Gonzalez’ faith with a dominant dispay in the middle as Espanyol recorded a fine 3-2 away win against Real Sociedad.

    3) ANGEL CORREA (Atletico Madrid) – 7.75

Eibar looked set to hold Atletico to a goalless draw until the introduction of some substitutes injected some much-needed life into the Atletico attack. One of these substitutes was Angel Correa and the striker’s fine finish just a minute after coming on gave the his team the lead. Correa then turned provider as his pass to onrushing Fernando Torres led to the goal which sealed the contest.

    4) MARC BARTRA (Barcelona) – 7.71

In a team that contains Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi it is difficult for another forward, let alone a defender to get on the score sheet. But Marc Bartra’s opening goal for Barcelona was just reward for a solid performance at the back that saw any rare Levante attacks swiftly snuffed out. The defender’s ability to seamlessly join the attack should see him given more game time at Camp Nou.

    5) FERNANDO TORRES (Atletico Madrid) – 7.63

The other ‘super-sub’ in Atletico’s narrow escape at Eibar, Fernando Torres wound back the clock to demonstrate a first-class finish from Correa’s through ball to settle the contest. Full of energy and movement, Eibar simply had no answer to the Spaniard’s probing positional play.
