  • Agnieszka Radwanska is enjoying a fine start to the season, winning 14 out of 17 matches, including a quarter-final run at the Australian Open and her final showing this week in Dubai.

The world No6 is building on a strong second half of last year where she won tournaments in San Diego, Tokyo and Beijing and it seems the main thing she has done differently is that she is no longer travelling with her father Robert as a full-time coach, and instead has coaches Tomasz Wiktoroski and Borna Bikic touring with her and her sister Urszula.

“I’ve been practicing with my dad for 17 years, which is really long time. But we had some arguments off the court,” she explained.

“On the court we always had a good relationship, and he’s a great coach and he taught me everything.

“So without him I wouldn’t be here on the court. But sometimes it’s getting too much and you mixing up private life with tennis.

“We’re still in touch and talking every day. He’s watching the matches. It’s just he’s just not here.”

Radwanska insists her mindset hasn’t changed that much since her father stopped travelling with her on Tour.

She added: “Family is always the most important thing. But like I said, in professional sports it’s always tough.”

Last year after her last-16 exit from the French Open, a furious Robert Radwanska criticised his daughter’s form telling reporters that she needed a psychiatrist and that “she will never win anything big if she plays like that”.
