  • It’s safe to say the most talked about topic yesterday at the O2 was not the quality of the match between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, nor was it the new deal that’s keeping the ATP World Tour Finals in London through 2015 – but it was bizarrely the Scot’s Adidas kit.

Murray started the match donning gold shorts and a black tightly-fitted t-shirt with black/gold sleeves which got the tennis writers, TV commentators and pundits taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the apparently controversial kit.

Things got crazier when Murray, who played a phenomenal first set, changed to the white version of the shirt before the second set, which he lost to Djokovic – which naturally led former player, coach and pundit, Brad Gilbert to say: “The Muzzard needs to change back to the black shirt now.”

Some serious analysis was going on there. USTA Director of Corporate Communication Tim Curry commented: “I loved Andy Murray in Tron, but I can’t tell from his outfit if he was in the original or the remake.”

Courtney Nguyen of Sports Illustrated had some insightful thoughts saying: “Maybe the kit is a tribute to Murray’s year: Gold shorts = Olympic gold medal. Yellow/Black top = Urine and exhaust of NYC. It’s possible,” which led Elena from The Slice to compare Murray to a taxi driver.

Yes, two of the best players in the world were facing off for the seventh time this year in a gruelling battle, but the Murray shirt is what really made the cut. Dare he change it before his next match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga?

The fashion talk also made its way into the press conference room, this time when a journalist asked Djokovic about his Uniqlo jacket telling him he knows it’s worth $40 because he bought one for his wife.

The world No1 eventually told the journalist: “Hopefully your wife likes the jacket, I can get you one for free next time.”

Meanwhile, British singer Peter Gabriel was in the house which of course meant the DJ in the arena made us suffer through one of his songs during the changeovers – and it wasn’t even “In Your Eyes”.

Here’s hoping someone like Robert Plant shows up today. Or maybe One Direction?
