Italy’s Andreas Seppi made quite the impressive comeback yesterday to beat Florian Mayer and slightly improve his dismal winning record this season.
If this is an indication that Seppi might be getting his mojo back, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that he practiced with one Roger Federer the day before.
I happened to watch the pair hit together on centre court on Sunday, and at one point it looked like a buoyant Federer was singing ‘Volare’ while warming up with the Italian.
The Swiss is looking extremely fit this week and he spent some time after his practice session doing some arm and leg exercises before stepping off the court.
A fit and happy Federer is the ultimate combo.
The rest of the field should seriously beware!
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic was being his usual self, cracking jokes and having a good time at the round table interviews.
He hid behind a journalist during Tomas Berdych’s interview, and when he got the chance to fire a question, he shouted out: “I have a question about your new clothing line.”
Last year’s finalists both cracked up before Djokovic moved on to do his TV interviews.
Later on, the defending champion told us about his indoor skydiving experience, which His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince, was kind enough to invite Djokovic and his team to try out.
Djokovic, his brother Marko, his coach Boris Becker, and a friend gave it a shot and the Serb took the opportunity to tease his new coach.
“Boris kept saying he was like a fish out of the water. He was not very comfortable out there, for some reason he was sinking all the time. He’s going down more than he was staying up but you can understand that,” laughed the world No2.
Del Potro’s Cup favourites With it being a World Cup year, we would have been remiss not to talk football with Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro.
The world No5 was quite clear about who he thinks will lift the Cup this summer in Brazil.
“I think we’re going to be the champions for sure,” said Del Potro. “We have got Lionel Messi, we have got Sergio Aguero and other big names as well. Our country is expecting to win this World Cup, it’s time for Messi to win a World Cup for us.”
