  • He made it: Stan Wawrinka.

Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka has officially qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals, becoming the fourth player confirmed for the event.

It means the 29-year-old will join the already-qualified trio of world No1 Novak Djokovic, French Open champion Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the London event next month (November 9-16).

Wawrinka qualified despite an early exit at the hands of Frenchman and beaten finalist Gilles Simon in Shanghai earlier this week.

It is the second year in a row the Swiss has reached the elite season-ending finale.

“It was my dream and goal to qualify again this year after the great experience in 2013. Being part of this great event remains a childhood dream for me,” he said.

“The atmosphere in London is one of a kind and it means a lot to me to be there together with the very best players of the world.”

Japan’s Kei Nishikori, US Open champion Marin Cilic, Czech Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic of Canada currently occupy the remaining four qualification positions.

David Ferrer and Andy Murray are just outside the top-eight in the Race to London and both are in action this week in Vienna.

Desperately chasing a qualification spot, Murray could end his season having played for seven straight weeks, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna, Valencia, Paris and London..
