  • The world no.14 has confirmed she will play singles and doubles in Rio, but is awaiting news on her mixed partner.

Belinda Bencic revealed she has not spoken to anyone about playing mixed doubles with Stan Wawrinka at next year’s Rio 2016 Olympics but the Swiss teenage sensation says she is ready to team up with her countryman if called upon.

Bencic, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the rankings over the past 18 months to land at her current position of No.14 in the world, will be playing doubles with Martina Hingis – a lifelong mentor to the 18-year-old – in Rio next year, as well as singles.

But no decision has been made regarding mixed doubles with Wawrinka.

“A lot of people are asking me this but I cannot decide this. For sure it was Roger (Federer) and Martina who were deciding and I’m so happy that it went good with them. I’m ready to play singles and I’m playing doubles with Martina and for mixed, I hope, I will be ready but it’s not… (decided yet),” Bencic told Sport360 during the Dubai leg of the IPTL on Monday.

“I don’t know. It’s in the hands of Stan or from the people who organise this. I haven’t talked to anyone about it.”

Bencic and Hingis have confirmed they will team-up in Rio.

Bencic is part of the Singapore Slammers team in the IPTL. Her team-mates in Dubai are Andy Murray – who faces Roger Federer on Tuesday night – Carlos Moya, Nick Kyrgios, Karolina Pliskova, Dustin Brown and Marcelo Melo.
