  • Over and out: Mohamed Safwat was making his Roland Garros debut.

Two Arabic players crashed out of Roland Garros qualifying yesterday as rain once again wreaked havoc with the schedule.

Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat spent only 36 minutes on court as he was blitzed 6-1, 6-1 by qualifying top seed Paolo Lorenzi in a match that was suspended for rain while he was trailing 1-3 the previous day.

The Arab No2 played 56 minutes in total on his Roland Garros debut.

Joining Safwat out of Paris was former French Open junior champion Ons Jabeur, who fell 6-2, 6-3 to Australian No16 seed Olivia Rogowska in the first round of women’s qualifying.

The Tunisian 19-year-old came back from ankle surgery three months ago and won her first title post-surgery in Tunis last week.

Meanwhile, Malek Jaziri’s second round with Jesse Huta Galung was cancelled and pushed to today.

The 30-year-old Tunisian is the only remaining Arabic player in the qualifying draw.
