  • Ladies’ Evening was a success.

    After a successful start at the Ladies’ Evening, day two of ‘Fortnum and Mason presents Tennis at the Palace’ saw a display of world-class tennis play out against the magnificent setting of the Emirates Palace hotel grounds, Abu Dhabi.

    Dedicated as ‘Fortnum’s Friday’ in honour of title sponsor Fortnum & Mason, the second day of the inaugural event opened to a sunny afternoon of friendly tennis, kicking off with former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek playing Younes El Aynaoui, resulting in a highly entertaining and competitive exhibition match against the stunning backdrop of the Emirates Palace hotel.

    Following the match, guests enjoyed unrivalled hospitality and outstanding cuisine on the grounds. Play then resumed with the second match of the day, which saw tennis legends Mikael Pernfors and Peter McNamara  play Mansour Bahrami and Henri Leconte with all players putting up stellar performances.

    This was followed by another  thoroughly entertaining doubles match which saw Pat Cash and Younes El Aynaoui take on Tim Henman and Mikael Pernfors.

    From the moment guests arrived, they were invited to delve into the luxurious worlds of the event’s sponsors; enjoy afternoon tea and a game of croquet with title sponsor Fortnum & Mason, marvel at the full size model of Etihad Airway’s new Residence cabin, admire the majestic Bentley Emirates motors on display or shop the designer brands from AVENUE at Etihad Towers which were being showcased.

    Spectators are now gearing up for Finals’ Day, which serves as the last of this three day tournament, the first grass court tennis tournament in the UAE.
