  • Under the spotlight: Golf professionals from the ETPI will be on hand to score each round of the competition.

Jumeirah Golf Estates has announced its exciting new golf skills challenge which will take place at its European Tour Performance Institute (ETPI) in Dubai throughout 2014, beginning on Saturday April 19.

The BMW Skills Challenge runs over a series of eight qualifying rounds between April and October.

During each of these rounds up to 10 teams of four players will pit their golf skills over a series of challenging tests including pitching, bunker, chipping, putting, driving accuracy and length. The second round will take place on April 26 with dates yet to be confirmed for the remainder of the competition.

Each skill element will take place at ETPI’s world-class practice facilities under the guidance of their golf professionals, who will score each skill round.

Open to all golfers in the UAE, amateurs can enter in any of these qualifying rounds which will last one hour each.

The top team from each qualifier goes through to the semi-final to be held in early November.

The venue for the Grand Final will be the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Consisting of an 18 hole team Stableford competition, the Grand Final will provide competitors with the added opportunity to amass additional points through on-course skills challenges during the round.

The cost of entry in the competition is Dh500 per team.

The winners and runners-up will receive hospitality tickets overlooking the 18th Green for one day of this year’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, from November 20 to 23. Additionally, the winners will attend the DP World Tour Sponsors Day on November 24.

Golfers may enter as often as they wish and on different teams. All entrants will receive a welcome gift pack, refreshments, an invitation for a BMW test drive and a two-for-one voucher for a weekday green fee on Fire Course.

Golfers will also be entered into a prize draw for an ETPI Membership for one year.

The concept is partnered by AGMC – the official BMW Group Importer for Dubai, Sharjah and northern Emirates.

AGMC’s general manager, Osman Abdelmoneim said: “Golf is a sport of extreme skill, thought and precision.

“Therefore AGMC recognises the relationship between the BMW brand and golf. This knowledge plus the fact that Jumeirah Golf Estates, like BMW, is one of the most premium players in its field made our sponsorship of the BMW Skills Challenge at the European Tour Performance Institute an obvious move for us.”

Wayne Johnson, ETPI director of instruction, said: “We are really delighted to be able to introduce what we believe will be a fun event for golfers in an unique environment.

“We are very grateful to AGMC for their support in making this event happen.

“ETPI is the premier golf practice and instructional facility in the region and has already seen significant usage by leading European Tour Professionals who appreciate the fantastic practice opportunities.

“I’m sure competitors in the BMW Skills Challenge will have a lot of enjoyment and also improve their short game skills in taking part,” he added.
