  • Fantastic foursome: The victorious team stand proudly after their win.

Haris Michaelides, Stathis Stathis, Nick Evangelopoulos and Abdullah Al Karam combined perfectly to triumph in Dick Purchase’s Captain’s Day at Emirates Golf Club.

Captain Purchase chose to play a four-ball stableford format called the ‘Celtic Rumble’. It involved the best two scores counting on the first six holes, three scores to count on the seventh to 12th and all scores counting on the final six holes.

The winning team was captained superbly by Stathis, who signed for one of his best ever rounds over the Majlis course, contributing 45 points to the team tally of 14-under par.

The 96-strong field enjoyed the unusual format and the team of Rajinder Razdan, Qamar Rasheed, Baljit Vohra and Naresh Bhambhaney sealed runners-up place with a tally of 121 points, 13-under for the tournament.

Third place at eight-under par was grabbed by the team of Alan Salem, Marc Chalet, Pascal De Garrigues and Jean Michel Selles.

The day commenced with the traditional drive-in by the captain, who decided that all players from the first tee would use a hickory club and compete in a straight drive competition.
