  • Hurry up: Limited places are available and registration closes on April 22.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a football coach, then you may want to consider signing up for the FA International Foundation Course beginning on April 24 in Dubai.

Taking place at JA Centre of Excellence, and run by It’s Just Football, the course delivered by a qualified coach from the English Football Association will feature practical and theory elements on the basics of coaching.

Open to both genders over 16, the course includes a range of practices that can be utilised for a variety of players in different situations.

It will give an introduction to the effective management and coaching of football to both adults and young people, in order to assist the safe and progressive delivery of coaching sessions.

It aims to engage with players and gain confidence in the utilisation of a variety of coaching practices. While the theory focuses on dealing with players as well as qualities needed to be a coach, the practical elements include dribbling with the ball, shooting, heading, goalkeeping, passing and control.

You will also be given the chance to work with young players while being assessed.

Throughout the course, all students will receive guidance towards completion of the assignments. Upon completion, a qualified coach will provide detailed feedback on your performance and will advise you whether you need to do more coaching or advance to the Intermediate course, to be held in October at the same location.

“If you want to work with young players and want a career in coaching, then this is the first step on the coaching ladder,” says Chris Brown, managing director at IJF. “It’s a very good course and those who do come will learn a lot in its 48 hours (combined hours of sessions). It will give an insight to what coaching is all about. The participants will undertake practical and theory assessments in order to help them become a coach."

It’s not the first time IJF have hosted the intermediate course which attracted 20 budding coaches in January.

“The last one in January was great. We had twenty people turn out and they said they loved each minute of it. They learnt a lot about what is needed to coach as well as learning from a qualified FA coach,” says Brown.

“This will be the last one of the year before the Intermediate course and the people who do sign up will enjoy the course,” he adds.

If you want to sign up for the course, then the fee is Dh5,000. Places are limited and registration is open until April 22. It runs from Thursday April 24 to Friday May 2.

The classes take place between 18:00 to 22:00 every day apart from Friday (April 25 and May 2) and Saturday (April 26), which is from 09:00 to 17:00.
