The UAE’s Ahmed Al Ameri drove off with the ‘Drift King’ title and also won the final round of the Drift UAE Championship at Yas Marina Circuit on the weekend.

Following some awesome displays of drift and slide amid fierce competition from regional and international drivers Al Ameri, behind the wheel of a Toyota 86, beat Norwegian Fredrick Aasland to the title, reclaiming the crown he lost last year to Abdulhadi Al Qahtani [Ford Al Jazira Racing Team] of Saudi Arabia.

Third place went to Jordanian Ahmad Daham in his Tensai Racing Nissan Silvia S15.

Drift UAE brings together top professional drifters from around the region to compete in the only pro drifting league in the Middle East, while international drivers either working here or on holiday have been known to join the competition.

In the semi-pro category, the UAE’s Mohammed Sameer drifted his Lexus Soarer to victory over Saud Abdulhadi of Kuwait.

Third place was secured by the only female drifter in the Arab world, and ProDrift Academy instructor, Noor Dawood of Palestine.

The street category was claimed by Mohammed Alhinaye from Oman, with Sultan Al Qassimi of the UAE and Adam Bushehri of Kuwait completing the podium.

Organiser Mohammad Al Falasi says Drift UAE was launched in 2012 to ensure the underground, unorganised community races in a professional manner in a safe environment above-the-ground.

Al Falasi points out that big manufacturers such as Toyota and Ford have shown interest and given a boost to the sport by sponsoring teams and drivers.

The new season of the Drift UAE Championship will commence in December and run until May 2015.
