  • Big win: UBL make progress in the Aseel Islamic Finance Sharjah Ramadan Cup.

Ahmed Raza and Zaheer Maqsood led with the ball as UBL overwhelmed Radio 4 by 124 runs in the Aseel Islamic Finance 26th Sharjah Ramadan Cup.

After Mohammad Shakir scored an unbeaten half century to give UBL a challenging total of 199 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, Radio 4 were all out for 75 in 15 overs.

Having been put into bat, UBL lost opener Syed Maqsood for just 13 runs.

Baber Hussain (29) and Adeel Anwar (36) then shared a 67-run partnership for the second wicket to put UBL back on track.

Mohammad Shakir (57 n.o) and Amjad Ali (34) contributed substantially to UBL’s eventual total.

In reply, Radio 4 openers Khurram Sajjad and Shahzad Mahmood each scored 16, but with Ayaz Khan removing both the openers, Raza then took charge to return figures of 4-14, while Maqsood claimed 3-11.

Elsewhere, Desert Club beat Unicon by 26 runs.

Batting first, Desert Club got off to a shaky start, slumping to 25-3 but recovered to put on 112 in 19.4 overs. In reply, Unicon lost their top order cheaply and were restricted to 87-9 in their 20 overs.

    Big win for Multiplex

Multiplex International carved out an eight-wicket victory over Dubai Municipality to storm into the quarter-finals of the 13th Dulsco Ramadan Tournament.

After Dubai Municipality posted 154-8 in 20 overs at Zabeel Ground in Dubai, Multiplex International got the job done in just 11.2 overs.

    DBMSC reach Super Six stage

DBMSC showed steel with a 12-run win over Oxford Marine that gets its Ramadan Indoor Cricket Tournament at the ICC Academy at Dubai Sports City back on track.

Last year’s losing finalists had suffered the heartbreak of a one-run loss to defending champion the Danube Lions in the opening round of Super Six matches.

But a victory earned by solid batting, backed up by excellent fielding and bowling, has given the steel men renewed hope of making the Grand Final, set for Saturday 19 July.

DBMSC Steel batted first against Oxford Marine, itself smarting following a Super Six loss to SFS, and made a challenging 65.

That total would have been significantly higher but for the loss of two wickets in the final three overs of the innings and that late rally with the ball and in the field by Oxford Marine meant the match was on a knife-edge at the halfway stage.

But it swung decisively in DBMSC’s favour when the Marines lost two wickets in the first three overs of the reply, a period that yielded just five runs.

And although Oxford Marine then rallied with a second three overs that produced 22 runs, the final nail was hammered into the coffin when quarter number three brought only seven runs.

Oxford Marine lost a total of five wickets in its innings and ultimately that was a key factor in the defeat, it’s second in the Super Six stage.

DBMSC’s Umar was the player of the match for a superb all-round contribution, first of all setting the tone for the innings with a brisk 20 as opener and then returning later on with the ball to capture two wickets for minus seven runs.

DBMSC joins the Danube Lions, Radio 4 and SFS with one win in the Super Six stage, although the other three sides have played just one match in this second round.
