  • Hard work pays off: Members of the Yogi Group celebrate their win over UBL in the final of the Sharjah Ramadan Cup.

Swapnil Salvi and Shahzad Manna struck brilliant half-centuries as Yogi Group were crowned champions of the Aseel Islamic Finance 26th Sharjah Ramadan Cup 2014 Twenty20 tournament.

In humid conditions at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the pair superbly led Yogi Group to victory over United Bank Limited by a convincing nine wickets to lift the trophy and pocket the cash prize of Dh15,000.

The runners-up also took home a princely Dh10,000.

Chasing a target of 186 was never going to be easy for Yogi Group but the openers made it look like a walk in the park as the duo shared a stunning 158-run stand for the opening wicket.

Man-of-the-match Salvi finally fell while looking to wrap up things in a hurry but had done the damage by then, scoring 89 from only 43 deliveries.

His innings included four boundaries and 10 sixes, while his partner Manna remained unbeaten on 70 from 40 balls, an innings that featured six fours and five sixes.

UAE international Swapnil Patel joined in the fun after his namesake's dismissal, scoring 18 not out from 11 balls as Yogi Group achieved the target in 15.3 overs.

Having been put in to bat first, UBL were off to a great start with openers Syed Maqsood and Amjad Ali adding a quick-fire 64 runs.

Maqsood was at his aggressive best as he hit a 19-ball 46 that was littered with six sixes and a boundary, while Ali faced 25 deliveries for his 43.

For Yogi Group, Hassan Ali, Shahzad Manna, CTK Mashood, Jaymin Tailor and Salman Faris all claimed a wicket each.

Manna's night was made even better after he earned the player of the tournament award for his consistent performance.
