  • Rugby heavyweights: The Fiji side is known as one of the best sevens sides in the world.

UAE performance manager, Roelof Kotze, has confirmed that the UAE Rugby Federation (UAERF) are in talks with Fiji to host a fixture against the giants of sevens rugby ahead of December’s Dubai Rugby Sevens tournament.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, Kotze told Sport360 that the head of the UAERF, Qais Al Dhalai, is currently in talks with his Fijian counterparts about the possibility of the match.

“Nothing has been finalised with Fiji but quite a few of the top tier sides will be around for the Dubai 7s, so we want to get some fixtures with them before the competition,” said Kotze.

“We’re trying to get some feelers out at this stage and we want to test our boys against some of the best opposition out there.”

The UAE previously had a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) that was established under former performance manager Epeli Lagiloa.

The MOU saw the FRU assist in developing rugby in the UAE by sharing knowledge and coaches with the UAERF.
