  • Beautiful course: Yas Links Golf Club.

With the climate getting cooler and the summer vacations now over, two of Abu Dhabi’s leading golf Clubs are offering free classes for children this weekend.

Yas Links are holding their ‘Junior Open Day’ on Friday, between 08:00 and 12:00 for five to 18-year-olds, which will be headed by PGA Professional Anthony Buchanan.

And Abu Dhabi City Golf Club (ADCGC), which have been holding their ‘Junior Golf Bonanza’ since Monday, will run their coaching clinics from 16:00 to 18:00 for 4 to 16-year-olds, daily until Saturday.

Irrespective of whether your child has ever picked up a golf club or is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, head to Yas Links and the ADCGC.

Buchanan said: “It’s the start of the new season for us at Yas Links with many people coming back from their summer holidays, and the ‘Junior Open Day’ is just one of the new programmes at Yas Links.

“The idea behind the concept is to give the children the chance to try the great game of golf. It’s a sport that many children don’t get a chance to play given that football, cricket and tennis are very popular not just in the UAE but worldwide.

“It’s just a great way to improve their hand-eye coordination, balance and to make new friends. It also teaches juniors etiquette  and to show respect to all.”

And if children want to develop their game further, they can sign up for any of the junior courses on the day. They will also receive a free 30-minute lesson for themselves or their parents.

At the  ADCGC, the ‘Junior Golf Bonanza’ has been a success so far with children showing their enthusiasm for the sport.
Barry Reilly, Teaching Professional at ADCGC, said: “The aim is to grow junior golf under the guidance of ADCGC instructors at its top-class facilities.

“Open to beginners and the experienced, right and left handers, its a great opportunity to help kids develop their game and have fun.

“Our driving range has 32 covered bays to keep the kids protected from the sun and plenty of water will also be provided to keep them hydrated.”
