UAE golf round-up: Kevin Roy wins Orient Travel title, Nishtha Madan makes history

  • Winner: Kush Sama held his nerves to win the Indian Independence Day Golf Cup at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.

    Kevin Roy won the annual Orient Travel Golf Challenge, supported by Tourism Malaysia, which was recently played at the Faldo course of Emirates Golf Club.

    Playing consistently from tee to green, Roy carded 33 points, beating his nearest rival Des Hennessey by two points.

    The team of Manoj Agarwal, Vinit Chandra, Sameer Joshi and Ashok Galgotia combined effectively to take the honours with 79 points, while Hennessey was once again pushed to second spot by two points in the company of Graham Nichols and Nanthavan Sukkhasantikul.

    The nearest to the pin prizes went to Hugh Duff (hole 8) and Bayer Khan (12th) while Ali Bangash smashed the longest drive on the 16th. Zahid Noorani was rewarded for his accuracy off the tee when he took the straightest drive prize on the 10th.

    Kush Sama claims Indian Independence Day Cup glory


    Kush Sama held his nerves to win the Indian Independence Day Golf Cup at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club. 

    Playing steady golf, Sama returned 33 stableford points to take home the overall winner trophy.

    Nikhil Dhamani carded 32 points to take the honours in Division One, with Alok Pant beating Anish Bhatia for the second place in a countback after both tied with identical 31 points.

    In Division B, Gaurav Verma made it to the podium with 33 points, three clear of Dwaipan Nath as KJ Singh settled for third with 28 points. 

    Bhatia team triumph at annual Conares golf day

    One of India’s emerging ladies golf stars, Vaishavi Sinha, was among the many key clients, stakeholders and associates who took part in Conares’ annual golf day recently at The Address Montgomerie. 

    On the occasion, Conares also announced that they will sponsor Vaishavi’s international golf participation for the next three years.

    In the tournament, Bharat Bhatia, CEO of Conares, and his team of Tony Stroud, Kez Taylor and Howard Kitson finished on top with 98 points, while the team of Andrew Woolnough, Barry Roy Lewis, Gordon Bowles and Bob Gayle were runners-up with 92 points, getting ahead on a countback after Vaishavi, Samjhana Lama and Mel Stewart also finished on 92 points.

    TaylorMade Junior Open sees Madan make history

    Nishtha Madan overcame a field of 50 juniors from across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and India to be crowned champion in the TaylorMade Junior Open at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

    Madan, representing DLF Golf & Country Club in India, is the competition’s first ever female winner carding an exceptional gross score of 71 to secure victory.

    In the hotly contested Boys first division, Dubai Creek’s Jai Bhalla took first place ahead of Thomas Carney by virtue of a countback after both scored 68 points.

    In the Boys second division, Rocky D’Antoni secured victory by four points over Max Baldock with an impressive score of 40. In the Girl’s division, Chloe Trinh won with a score of 34 points, while Chantal El-Chaib was second with 30 points.

    Bhatia firmly in the swim of things at Dubai Creek

    Aarkesh Bhatia continued with his good form as he won the November edition of the Dubai Duty Free Junior Medal Championship with a fine score of 35.5 at Dubai Creek.

    Punya Khanna took top honours in the Boy’s Division as he finished just one shot behind Aarkesh on 36.5. Their performances saw them tie at the top of the order of merit heading into next month’s final event.
