In the lead up to the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, international tennis superstars are not the only players capturing headlines in the UAE.

With the Championship just over a month away, the future stars of UAE tennis are shining bright through the Mubadala Tennis in Schools Community Program.

The initiative is one of a series of programs designed to encourage Emirati talent to participate in tennis.

Throughout the school year, 20 schools receive equipment and elite coaching sessions to foster young tennis talent.

This week Al Mushrif School in Abu Dhabi welcomed the program, showcasing some of their rising student athletes.

At the end of the program, 40 children – two from each participating school – will be invited to display their newly acquired talents on centre court during the first day of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.

The program will then continue with sessions hosted at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City twice monthly until May 2015, culminating in an End of Season Championship where the skills of the youngsters will be put to the test.

The children have been working year round to improve and develop their skills to earn a chance to play in the capital.

Children who did not participate in the Tennis in Schools Program can still catch this year’s top talent at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship from the 1st to 3rd January 2015 at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City.
