UAE golf round-up: Desert Adventures Tourism win global accolade

  • Best in the business: Desert Adventures beat some of the biggest names in the UAE golf tourism industry to come out on top.

    Desert Adventures were adjudged the ‘Best Inbound Golf Tour Operator’ in the UAE at the annual World Golf Awards held in Portugal recently. 

    The World Golf Awards is part of World Travel Awards, and serves to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism.

    Desert Adventures were competing against some of the biggest names in the UAE golf tourism industry and came out on top. 

    The award was collected by their CEO Peter Payet, who said: “We are constantly striving to offer our customers consistent, world-class service. Being honoured with this award is testament to our unrelenting effort to be the region’s best.”

     
     
    Sulafa Hamdan makes her point to take Heritage Trophy

    Sulafa Hamdan aggregated 74 points over the two Emirates Golf Club courses to win the 36-hole Heritage Trophy in great style.

    After a brilliant 36 points in the first round on the Faldo course, Hamdan was even better the next day at the Majlis as she tallied 38 points.

    Her efforts ensured Sulafa a three-point victory over runner up Amarjeet Radia, who scored 35 and 36 points for a total of 71. Rajni Sud was third with 70 points.

    The best score for round one went to Sabine Choudry, who put together a marvellous 39 points, the best recorded score of the tournament. 
     
     
    Arjun Gupta impressive in winning Clubhouse Trophy

    Young Arjun Gupta continued his fine run of form as he scored 22 points on the back nine of the Majlis course of Emirates Golf Club to claim the Clubhouse Trophy.  His 40-point tally was two clear of his closest rival Gokul Mani on 38, while Dileep Kumar was third with 37 points.

    In the A division (handicap 0-14) Jignesh Sangani claimed first place with 37 points. Suvansh Arora lost on a countback and was the runner-up.

    Ishu Rupani won the B division (handicap 15-24) with 37 points, followed closely by runner-up Amresh Sangani on 36 points. 

    A special mention needs to be made of Nitin Kripalani, who won the  Nearest to the Pin prize by actually making a hole-in-one on the par 3 fourth hole with his last shot of the day.
     
     
    Aart Lehmkuhl, Andrew Mattern claim narrow Etihad Open win

    Aart Lehmkuhl and Andrew Mattern were the big winners from their handicap categories in the Etihad Open Stableford for the month of November at Yas Links.

    Apart from the bragging rights, air miles were on offer for the podium finishers, with the first three place getting 25,000, 15,000 and 10,000 air miles respectively.

    The Division A Handicap Category (0-14) was won by Lehmkuhl with 42 points. Thomas Kunt was a close second with 41 points, while Ian Miller was third with 40 points.

    In Division B (handicap 15-36), Yas Links guest Mattern won with 42 points, while the next two places were adjudged on the basis of a countback of the last six holes. 
    Wong Ming Shiang was second with 41 points, while Ying Hoong Fun finished third.
