  • Sealing the deal with a handshake: JGE and European Tour officials.

Jumeirah Golf Estates, already a permanent fixture on the European Tour since 2009, has further strengthened their association with the second biggest but most global golf tour when they became an Official Partner.

The premier residential community – home to two Greg Norman-designed golf courses – thus becomes the first golf and property development to join the Tour’s elite list of global partners.

The new agreement positions Jumeirah Golf Estates at the highest rank of European Tour ‘Partner’ status, and it will ensure promotion through the Tour’s multi-platform network, including year-round presence on europeantour.com, extensive TV exposure and Official Partner presence at multiple European Tour tournaments internationally.

Commenting on the landmark development, Yousuf Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Jumeirah Golf Estates, said: “Jumeirah Golf Estates is already a thriving community of families and international visitors, and attracts the world’s attention every year during the staging of the enthralling DP World Tour Championship.

“As we continue to enhance Jumeirah Golf Estates’ superior offering, our partnership with the European Tour is a milestone development that cements our status as a world-class residential golf community, and a major stakeholder in international golf.”

David Williams, Chairman of the European Tour, said: “As the host venue of our DP World Tour Championship, Jumeirah Golf Estates is a world-class development which enables the Tour to fulfil its mission of bringing elite golf to the world stage.

“Today’s announcement further strengthens our already established relationship, and we look forward to many more thrilling conclusions to the Race to Dubai at this outstanding venue.”

Neal Graham, General Manager – Club Operations, said: “Having hosted six editions of the DP World Tour Championship, we have developed a strong and valued relationship with The European Tour.

"We see our new improved partnership as an important natural progression and provides us with new opportunities to promote all that Jumeirah Golf Estates has to offer on a worldwide stage."

Located between Green Community and Dubai Sports City, JGE is made up of 14 residential communities. It has two championship golf courses, Fire and Earth, and over 1,000 luxury homes.

The golf course now has a state-of-the-art Clubhouse, as well as the region’s only European Tour Performance Institute – a world-class training facility for elite professionals and amateur golfers.

Water in focus at Toro seminar

Toro seminar participants at the JGE last year.

Hydroturf International, the leading golf course supply company in the Middle East and distributors of the world’s largest irrigation and turfcare brand TORO, will host their annual two-day seminar at Yas Links Abu Dhabi from today.

The Toro Golf Irrigation Seminar, which was held at Jumeirah Golf Estates last year, is back again this year and will demonstrate the products and services they can provide to the golf industry to improve efficient use of resources.

Golf club general managers and course superintendents, as well as irrigation contractors are expected to take part in the seminar.

The seminar will be addressed by Toro’s Marco Cappelli, EMEA and LA Golf Irrigation Marketing Manager, and Andreas Feichtinger, Area Manager – Northern Europe and Middle East.

Some of the key TORO products which will be discussed and demonstrated at the seminar are the Lynx 3.0 Central Control System, Turf Guard and the newly-released Infinity sprinkler heads.

Surveys have shown a potential 40 per cent savings in water consumption through use of these products.

When asked what the participants can learn from the seminar, Cappelli said: “The biggest cost for a golf course, especially in this region, is water.

If a golf course can decrease their water requirements and not waste it – for example by not spraying bunkers or lakes – then they can cut their budgets by as much as $500,000 (Dh1.83m) per year, depending on how much they currently spend.

This is an enormous amount of money. I think some people will be amazed by the new Toro technology.

“It goes beyond just water though – electricity and fertilizer costs also add up. Often, if you use less water, you can provide a better playing surface. So you can have the best of two worlds – save money and water.”
