  • Exciting: The 36-hole stroke play event gives the UAE's golf enthusiasts a chance to take on the challenge of Yas Links.

Taking place on March 13 and 14, the competition is open to all amateurs with a valid handicap certificate. The format is a 36-hole stroke play with tee times ranging from 07:00 to 12:00 on both days.

This year’s event will be the sixth edition and it’s gone from strength to strength since beginning in 2010. And this month’s tournament looks set to be another success.'

Carly Tjader, sales and marketing/relationship manager at Yas Links, said: “The Men’s Open is certainly a popular tournament at Yas Links. Every year the popularity of the competition increases which usually results in a full draw sheet. Entry numbers have been very positive so far and we expect there will be another big turnout this year.”

She added: “It’s a great opportunity for amateur golfers in the UAE to compete against each other with the competition being played on one of the finest golf courses in the country.”

Entry fees are Dh395 for Yas Links members and Dh950 for Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) members, while guests can enter for Dh1,050. Included in the entry fee is breakfast, a lunch buffet and unlimited practice sessions on both days.

Besides prizes for the winner, runner-up and third-placed golfer, there will be additional awards including ‘Best Gross’ and ‘Best Nett’.
It promises to be a memorable event given it’s the sixth edition and Tjader believes the opportunity to compete will be worthwhile.

She said: “Since opening, Yas Links has won a number of awards including best golf course in the Middle East in 2012 as well as
being in the top-100 in the world.

“The Men’s Open is a flagship tournament for the club and it will be a great experience to play on the fantastic course.

“Everyone will want to get the ‘bragging rights’ but there are some great prizes to be won even for those who don’t finish in the top-three.”

She added: “With it being a two-day competition, it’s a great opportunity for the men to bring their families and enjoy the weekend at Yas Island.”
