  • All smiles: Sahana Paravantavida (c).

Sahana Paravantavida got the better of two of the most successful club golfers of recent time to win the prestigious Ladies Club Championship at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

    – Voce and Merchant take top spot at Xerox Corporate Golf Challenge
    – UAE shoot to victory at BMW Golf Cup International

The Club Championship is the biggest event in the members’ calendar and the 36-hole strokeplay event attracted a huge field.

Paravantavida took the first day lead with a solid performance, carding a seven-over par 78 to lead by five shots over five-time champion Nasha Sarkari and by nine shots over Kristi Sealey.

Another previous champion and a regular contender, Naema Maya, was not out of it after an openinground 88. Maya was out in the second last group and applied some early pressure with a strong start, while Paravantavida didn’t start in the same fashion and was shaky through the front nine which saw her lead drop to just one shot over Maya.

The finishing stretch at Dubai Creek is tough and a triplebogey seven on the 15th from Maya was the real turning point.

Paravantavida had steadied herself after the rough start, and even a bogey on the par-4 15th could only reduce the gap to three shots.

She finally finished on 82 for a two-day total of 164, which won her the crown by four shots over Maya (88-80-168). Sealey was awarded the net winners prize for a two-day total of 135.
