Abu Dhabi Saracens scored the most points in a UAE Premiership match this season as they thrashed Al Ain Amblers 71-12 in the capital Friday night.
The Al Ghazal outfit signed off for the league’s mid-season break in style with a glut of tries, Welsh fly-half Matt Hutchings and South African hooker Gio Fourie leading the charge with a brace of tries for the hosts, who scored 11 in all.
A penalty try kicked the rout off as Sarries had the game won and a bonus point in the bag by half-time, the reigning West Asia Cup champions leading 38-0 at the break.
Luca Mene, Stephen Hamilton, Vito Tuivione, Mike Pugliese, Hassan Al Noobi and Ash Cockerill also touched down for Sarries, while UAE international Al Noobi notched eight conversions.
Sarries’ joint head coach Hamilton said: “It was a really positive game, with good structures from us and we really benefitted from our hard work.”
Amblers, who scored at the beginning and end of the second half through Darren Sutton and Ahmed Al Basha tries, will be glad of the four month Premiership break.
“We were really short today with only four reserves but I’m still proud of how the boys did,” said Amblers coach Andrew Rouvi, who was forced into action himself.
There was more capital punishment on the other side of Abu Dhabi as Harlequins got back to winning ways with a 29-3 triumph against Jebel Ali Dragons.
Pete Wackett and Brian Geraghty both went over for tries for Quins at Zayed Sports City as they consigned last week’s first defeat of the season at neighbours Sarries to memory.
After a poor display from the tee in that 20-18 defeat, fly-half Luke Stevenson certainly brought his kicking boots this week as he converted both tries and also knocked over five penalties for the hosts.
Quins stay top of the standings despite a bonus point win for Dubai Exiles against Dubai Hurricanes seeing them draw level on points.
