  • It's back: COEGA Swimwear Mina Mile Swimming race returns to Dubai for ninth consecutive year

The COEGA Swimwear Mina Mile Open Water Swimming Race returns to Dubai for a ninth consecutive year, with the event set to take place on Saturday, 15 November.

The event ties in with COEGA Swimwear's 'Drop Your Shorts For Good' campaign, a movement which rose in response to a Dubai law which which demanded labourers to wear appropriate attire at beaches.

Competitors are urged to drop off any sort of 'gently used' or new beachwear in support of the cause.

The main itself will feature a one mile (1600 meters) swim with four aged categories for both male and female whilst a 200m swim for younger competitors will also feature at the event.

Meanwhile, shorter 400m and 800m events will run in tandem to the main event for those who unable to attend the one-mile swim and a 3×100 relay event for families, swim clubs, schools and companies will also take place.

"The Mina Mile swim series is now entering its 9th year on the Dubai swimming scene. With it being the only open water swim series on offer in the UAE, the event has evolved in to a real family affair with more and more families entering and for this year," commented race Director, Warren van der Merwe from Super Sports Events.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of COEGA, Maureen Hall, hopes that the event will boost more awareness for the campaign at hand.

"The event ties in perfectly with our “Drop-Your-Shorts” for good campaign. We invite all swimmers and spectators to bring gently used or new bathing suit shorts to the COEGA Sunwear tent on race day and drop them in the convenient collection bins," she said.

"This exciting initiative began several years ago in response to a law passed requiring all laborers to wear appropriate attire at Dubai beaches.

"So far we have donated over 600 bathing suits.  We hope to make this the most successful year yet and we can with your help!”

Entry fees are 150dhs per adult and 100dhs per junior aged 18 and under. All event details and online entries can be found at www.supersportsdubai.com.
