Saaed Hareb isn’t surprised by how successful the Dubai International Boat Show has become since its debut in 1992.

The exhibition has become a pinnacle event in the Dubai calendar, and thousands will flock to the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) this week to see some of the most luxurious yachts as well as the latest products in water sports.

Speaking on the opening day of the show, which runs until Saturday, Hareb, vice-president and chairman of DIMC, said: “The
attendance figures have increased year by year and it’s continuing to increase.

“We have a good local market with some of the leading yacht-makers here in the UAE. It’s great  to see there are many luxury boats here, but it’s more than that.

“There are different products available including those associated with watersports, which is continuing to grow in the UAE.
“That in itself attracts visitors of different backgrounds to the club where everything can be found in one place.”

Boats worth Dh1 billion have been put on display to the public since yesterday with world’s leading companies in attendance.

Among those are Behnemar Middle East LLC, who presented a small replica of the Silver Fast yacht. Costing €80 million (Dh328m), the super yacht measures 77m in length and is the fastest aluminium boat with a top speed of 29 knots.
“This is a unique yacht because it’s fast. To put that into context, it can take 21 days from Perth to
Europe,”  said Dr Rainer Behne, chairman of Behnemar Middle East LLC.

He added: “You don’t find many new yachts like this available around the world. The Dubai International Boat Show is very important for me, it’s a must-attend event because we can showcase our products to the thousands of visitors that come to Dubai.”
