Lionel Messi and his Argentina team-mates have taken another step towards World Cup 2018 after they arrived at the Bronnitsy Training Center in Moscow, Russia.

La Albiceleste had been based in Barcelona for the previous 10 days after a controversial friendly in Israel was cancelled at the last minute.

Final preparations will now get under way ahead of June 16’s Group D-opener against Iceland at Spartak Stadium.

Superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo has declared Portugal hold “huge ambition” to succeed at World Cup 2018.

Ronaldo, 33, is the star turn for the Euro 2016 holders.

Speaking at a farewell ceremony in Lisbon hosted by his nation’s president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Real Madrid icon said: “What I can guarantee is that we all have huge ambition, both the national squad and the technical staff.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s brief break after Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph is over and he has begun work with Portugal ahead of World Cup 2018.

Ronaldo, 33, joined his nation’s camp in Cascais on Monday afternoon – 11 days before their Group B-opener against Spain.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was given time off after Madrid’s 3-1 showpiece victory in Kiev on May 26.

Portugal have never won the World Cup, but managed to lift Euro 2016.
