Cycling
Participants will gather at Kalba’s lagoons before the signal to start cycling, with riders beginning their ride through the surrounding Kalba Hills, pedalling along the Corniche before turning west along the UAE-Oman border.
Cyclists will once again turn and head northwards as they start their ascent of the Kalba tunnel before the breathtaking descent back to the east coast. There are two distances available, elite (70km) and challenge (37km).
This is by no stretch of the imagination an “easy” ride. Considering the rocky terrain, Urban Ultra asks interested parties to attain a certain level of fitness before opting to tackle the distances devised. Elite riders must reach the end of the first loop no later than 08:15 while Challenge riders must do so in 1.5hrs.
Water/feed stations are located at the start and finish line as well as the base of the Kalba tunnel climb. Self-sufficiency is highly advised.
TT and TRI bikes aren’t suitable due to safety restrictions. Standard road or mountain bikes for the Challenge distance are permitted.
