India still managed to push towards a victory.

Only 15.5 overs were possible on Tuesday due to the weather but India still managed to make four breakthroughs in that time to reduce the Windies to 48 for four at stumps.

That has left the home side needing another 256 runs on the final day to avoid an innings defeat but, with plenty of time having already been lost to the elements, India will know the outcome of the match is still in the balance.

Rain towards the end of day three meant the India bowlers had to wait for their chance to get at the Windies batsmen after Virat Kohli had declared on 500 for nine – a first-innings lead of 304.

But the tourists were quickly into their stride on Tuesday morning and required just 15 balls to get their first scalp, Rajendra Chandrika bowled for one shouldering arms at Ishant Sharma.

Several rain delays prevented India from building much momentum at Sabina Park but they still managed to pick up three more wickets before the weather finally put paid to the day’s play midway through the afternoon.

Amit Mishra ended a 36-run stand between Kraigg Brathwaite (23) and Darren Bravo (20) when he had the former caught by Lokesh Rahul at midwicket, and then Mohammed Shami struck twice in successive overs to send back Bravo and Marlon Samuels.

Samuels was caught by Rahul in the slips off a short ball for a duck and Bravo’s dismissal, gloving a bouncer to slip, was the final action of the day to leave India hoping for favourable weather on day five as they bid to go 2-0 up in the four-Test series.
