Antoine Griezmann was Atletico Madrid‘s hero once more with the winner as last season’s Champions League finalists moved third in La Liga with a 1-0 win over 10-man Deportivo la Coruna.

Atletico passed up a host of chances in the second half, but finally made the breakthrough 20 minutes from time when Griezmann tapped home his fifth goal of the season.

In Sunday’s early kick-off, Valencia came from behind to win 2-1 away at newly-promoted Leganes.

Los Che, who sacked coach Pako Ayesteran on Tuesday before recording a first victory of the season against Alaves on Thursday, were behind after 21 minutes when Alexander Szymanowski headed in at the back post.

Valencia, though, were level on 34 minutes when former Manchester United winger Nani netted his first goal for the club, netting a loose ball following Rodrigo’s challenge on Leganes goalkeeper Jon Ander Serantes.

Inter Milan‘s Geoffrey Kondogbia paid the price for blanking coach Frank De Boer’s instructions with an early exit as Bologna held the misfiring Nerazzurri to a 1-1 draw Sunday.

Kondogbia lost possession in midfield to spark the counter-attack that led to Mattia Destro’s 14th minute opener.

Kondogbia was hauled off and replaced by Assane Gnoukouri on 28 minutes.

Less than 10 minutes later, Ivan Perisic equalised with a superb volley but Inter, who saw Andrea Ranocchia head a late chance wide, dropped two precious points to sit four behind leaders Juventus.

Roma forward Francesco Totti, who will turn 40 next week, reached another career landmark against England ‘keeper Joe Hart on Sunday when he hit his 250th career goal in Serie A.

Totti, who will celebrate his birthday on Tuesday, came off the bench to help reduce arrears for the visitors when he beat Torino ‘keeper Hart from the spot with a 55th minute penalty.

Southampton condemned West Ham to another miserable experience at their new London Stadium as Charlie Austin and Dusan Tadic inspired the visitors’ 3-0 victory on Sunday.

Austin put Southampton ahead before Tadic and James Ward-Prowse wrapped up Southampton’s fourth successive win in all competitions.

Schalke remain bottom of the German Bundesliga following a fifth straight Bundesliga defeat with Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Hoffenheim piling the pressure on coach Markus Weinzierl.

Nice may have been without Mario Balotelli but they ground out a 1-0 win at Nancy on Sunday to go back to the top of the Ligue 1 table.

With Balotelli, scorer of four goals in his first two appearances in French football, left behind on the Cote d’Azur due to an adductor problem, his fellow striker Alassane Plea scored the only goal of the game at the Stade Marcel-Picot.
