From the Nevilles to the De Boers - Football's top five sibling pairings at club level over the years

Brothers Phil and Gary Neville are co-owners of Salford.

Jonathan dos Santos has joined the Los Angeles Galaxy from Villarreal in a move that will see the midfielder play alongside his older brother Giovani at the Major League Soccer club.

The 27-year-old Mexico international has played 29 times for his country and has left LaLiga to become the Galaxy’s third designated player, meaning his wages can be paid above the team’s salary cap.

Dos Santos started his career at Barcelona before leaving in 2014 to join Spanish rivals Villarreal, for whom he made over 120 appearances.

A reunion for the Dos Santos pair got us thinking about other brother double acts who have played together at club level.

On the move: Jonathan Dos Santos.

WE HAVE PICKED OUR TOP FIVE BELOW:

THE DE BOERS

Ronald and Frank De Boer are arguably the most successful brother act in club football having started off their careers together at Dutch giants Ajax before the two stars made a £22 million switch to Barcelona in 1999 to link-up with Louis van Gaal.

They also enjoyed a spell together in Scotland, with Rangers, in 2004 – before following each other to Qatar-based side Al-Rayyan SC and then their city neighbours Al-Shamal Sports Club.

THE NEVILLES

Gary and Phil Neville rose up through the ranks from the club’s famed ‘Class of 92’ youth side and played alongside each other in the Red Devils first-team for more than a decade – winning a glut of trophies at Old Trafford.

As well as playing for England together, more recently, they lined up as a double act in the dugout at Valencia in 2016.

THE TOURES

Manchester City legend Yaya Toure, at 34, is still going strong in the Premier League with the Blues and played alongside his brother, Kolo, for three seasons at the Etihad Stadium club from 2010 to 2013.

Incidentally, Kolo arrived in Manchester before Yaya and they were both part of the club’s maiden Premier league title success during the 2011-12 campaign.

THE SILVAS

While their time at Old Trafford may not have been anywhere near as successful as the Nevilles, Fabio and Rafael spent six and seven years in Manchester respectively.

Both players occupied full-back roles but Rafael was the better of the two, chalking up over 100 appearances where as Fabio struggled for regular first-team action. Still, the boys from Brazil can always lay claim to the fact they both wore the famous red jersey.

THE BENDERS

Germany stars Lars and Sven Bender will play alongside each other at Bayer 04 Leverkusen this coming season as the latter completed his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.

They previously played alongside each other for 1860 Munich during the early years of their careers.
