Roger Federer: Swiss star beats Alexander Zverev to win ninth Halle title

Federer has now won four titles in six tournaments in 2017.

Roger Federer ramped up his Wimbledon preparations by lifting his ninth Halle trophy on Sunday, defeating German prodigy Alexander Zverev 6-1 6-3 in just over 53 minutes.

The Swiss has used the tournament as an ideal platform ahead of Wimbledon for many years and looks in ominous form once again before the third Grand Slam of 2017 gets underway next week – where he will be seeded third.

Federer, who won the Australian Open crown in January and followed that up with the ‘Sunshine Double’ in Indian Wells and Miami, was playing in his 140th ATP Tour level final – where he now boasts a winning record of 92-47, with one walkover.

Here, we look at how Federer has gone onto fare at SW19 down the years after winning Halle.

It’s also worth noting on the two other occasions he made the final in Germany and lost (2010 and 2012) – he reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon (Losing to Tomas Berdych) and won two years later (Beating Andy Murray).

Can Federer win Wimbledon again in 2017 and add to his Grand Slam haul of 18?
