The 2018 FIFA World Cup got underway with hosts Russia taking on Saudi Arabia in the first game on Thursday.
The football extravaganza will be played in 12 stadiums across 12 cities with the title decider at the 81,000-capacity Luzhniki Stadium on July 15.
Defending champions Germany, 2010 winners Spain, Brazil, France and Lionel Messi-led Argentina are among the top contenders for the title.
