Desert Road Runners is a family orientated running club that welcomes runners of any age or ability.It was founded in 1989. It is the oldest running club in Dubai.
The club has been managed since 1998 by Graham Rafferty and his wife Katrina.The club's policy is that it is open to everyone, regardless of race, age or ability.
The club's aim is to promote running at all levels.The format of the club makes it attractive to beginners.
The club meets every Saturday evening at 6:30 pm on the running track on the beach, just south of Jumerah Beach Park for a 5 km time trial(2.5 km for Juniors). Each runner predicts their own time and the closest to prediction wins a prize.
Desert Road Runners organize around 5 events per a year from October to April.
All of Desert Road Runners events have categories for juniors as well as veterans and super veterans.
The club is non profit making and entirely dependent on the services of volunteers.
Interval training sessions are held every Sunday and Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm at Al Barsha park.
Long slow distance runs are held in the Meadows area every Friday morning commencing 6:00 am by the Emirates International School adjacent to the Village Mall Shopping area.
Membership is informal. There are no club rules which restricts members.
