The Vipers were founded along with the 4 other squads that comprise the league in 2009 to make up the Emirates Hockey League. The league consists of the Vipers, Dubai Mighty Camels, Abu Dhabi Storm, Al AIn Theebs, and the Abu Dhabi Scorpions. The Theebs & Storms teams are filled with mostly local Emirati players, and the other three squads are populated by solely ex-patriate players from various countries. This is all with the aim to improve local hockey at the "Elite" level, and prepare the national squad for international play..
