IN PICS: Gerrard stars in Liverpool - Real legends match

Sport360 staff 25/03/2017

Anfield played host to a star-studded charity football match on Saturday as a Liverpool Legends team including Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher, and Ian Rush took on a Real Madrid legends side featuring Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, and Michel Salgado.

Liverpool jumped out to a 4-0 lead with goals from Owen, John Aldridge, Robbie Fowler, and Gerrard, before the Madrid legends hit back to make it 4-3, with the final whistle coming before they could complete the comeback.

Gerrard set up the first three Liverpool goals, while there were light-hearted boos for Fowler after he scored the penalty that put Liverpool 3-0 up, with the Anfield crowd wanting to see Gerrard score. They got their wish soon after, however, as Gerrard scored his side's fourth.

Jerzy Dudek showed more than enough in goal to perhaps make current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wonder if signing the Polish keeper would solve the Reds' goalkeeping woes. For Madrid, Portugal legend Figo showed he still has the silky skills and touch that made him a star not so long ago, while Roberto Carlos had an entertaining 18-minute cameo. Edwin Congo, Fernando Morientes, and Ruben de La Red scored the Madrid side's goals. Gerrard was named Man of the Match.
