The short Nike film takes a common phrase - “What will they say about you” – and flips it on its head.  Athletes in the region are excelling in sport more than ever.

They’re “the first”, “the best”, “the only”  and the Nike campaign is inspired by the idea that trying something for the first time and pushing beyond your personal boundaries and fears can lead to positive change and, in the instance of sport, lead to a healthier lifestyle.

Having a blast: Tendulkar.

Kenya played their first-ever ODI on this day 21 years ago at the World Cup and while defeat was inevitable, Sachin Tendulkar ensured it was an especially memorable debut for the Africans.

Kenya gave it a good go in Cuttack as Steve Tikolo’s 65 of 83 balls took them to a respectable 199-6 off 50 overs with Anil Kumble taking 3-28, but then Sachin took over.

Opening alongside Ajay Jadeja, the pair put on 163 for the first wicket, taking India to within a few runs of victory.

But it was Tendulkar who weighed in with most of the runs, taking his side over the line with 127 runs in 138 balls as India won by seven wickets with 49 balls remaining.

Other memorable events that took place on this day

1977: Colin Croft and Joel Garner both make their Test debuts for West Indies against Pakistan in Bridgetown.

1986: Alvin Robertson of the San Antonio Spurs scores only the second NBA quadruple double in history with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals against Phoenix.

2001: NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. is killed following a collision with Ken Schrader on the final lap of the Daytona 500.
