  • Former Dakar winners Giniel de Villiers and Nasser Al-Attiyah join forces and race with Toyota Gazoo Racing at the upcoming desert classic.

The pair formerly worked together at Volkswagen, where both drivers secured Dakar glory.

South African driver De Villiers won the event in 2009, a year before Qatar’s Al-Attiyah jumped on board.

Al-Attiyah finished 2nd in Dakar in his first season with Volkswagen before winning the race in 2011 when De Villiers finished second.

Since then, Al-Attiyah has won the race once more, with Mini in 2015 when he once again pipped his new team-mate in second, while De Villiers finished last year in third, Al-Attiyah in second.
