  • More than 1,000 car-loving adventurers were treated over the weekend by Emirates Motor Company (EMC), who set up what is known as “The Iron Schöckl” challenge.

EMC brought its Iron Schöckl Activation, a man-made moving iron mountain, to Abu Dhabi’s streets, showing the fearlessness of both the people in the carpark and the Mercedes-Benz AMG G500 4×4 vehicle, more commonly known as the G-Class or G-Wagon.

Hundreds of Abu Dhabi residents and visitors had a first-hand experience of the cruising capabilities of the car and the raw power that comes with forcing it to undertake a 100% mountain climb.

The challenge saw the G-Class hover in the air on the moving Iron Mountain, before the car tilted to make its 45-degree descent. For perspective, Ferrari World’s record-breaking rollercoaster, the Flying Aces, has a 51-degree incline.

The activation also had on display G-class vehicles, as well as GLS500, GLE Coupe 63 and GLC Coupe 250 models for those less inclined to test their iron.

Ramez Youssef, Head of Marketing and Communications of Al Fahim Group, said: “The Iron Schöckl was developed to showcase the incomparable off-road capabilities of the G Class, but perhaps more importantly it’s extremely amusing for those who give it a try and great to watch.”
