  • Reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic took on Alistair Overeem at the headline event of UFC 203 in Cleveland, USA in September, with Miocic’s heavyweight belt on the line.

Overeem had heaped the pressure on Miocic before the fight, claiming that the champion was seemingly not focused enough ahead of the title clash. He backed up his talk early on in the fight, dropping Miocic with the first clean shot he was able to land.

However, Miocic recovered, avoiding a guillotine choke attempt before resetting and going on the attack. Miocic ended the fight with 30 seconds left in the first round, earning a TKO win to retain his crown.

It was an emotional moment for the Cleveland native, as UFC was holding an event in Cleveland for the first time.

Miocic’s first-round knockout comes in at No. 10 in UFC’s top ten fights of 2016.
