  • AJ Styles retained his WWE Championship with a hard-fought win over Samoa Joe

It has been one of the best story lines in WWE, and the payoff at HIAC wasn’t bad either.

As things got personal between AJ and Joe in recent weeks, the heat going into this was very real.

The match itself was an up and down affair with both men trading offence without ever really captivating the audience, before it ended in controversy.

With a Coquina Clutch locked in, Joe thought he was on for a title win – falling onto his back to lock the hold in further.

AJ was able to roll though and pin Joe’s shoulders down long enough to get the three-count – but only as he was tapping.

This was out of the ref’s sight and AJ was able to hold on to his crown.

A furious Joe would later confront Smackdown general manager Paige who set a no count-out, no DQ match for Super Show-Down

Some highs, some lows, some mehs.
