Ahmed Rashid says winning the Arabian Gulf League rookie of the year award, as well as being named in the team of the year, will give him a huge boost ahead of the new season.
The 18-year-old Al Wahda rightback had a breakthrough year at Al Nahyan Stadium, playing a total of 19 games as the Clarets finished fourth.
The UAE Under-19 international was given his debut by former Wahda head coach Jose Peseiro in October’s 3-3 draw at Ajman and went on to play 15 AGL games as well as making four appearances in the League Cup.

Winning the rookie of the year award is one thing, but to be chosen in the Best XI at the AGL 2014/15 awards on Sunday night says something about the future that lies ahead for the talented full-back.
“Winning the award is going to give me a boost, of course,” Rashid told Sport360°. “Next season I hope we do better and I hope I can get involved more with the team. I hope they are more confident with me and I play more.”
Rashid admits he is proud of his development, having made a conscious decision to look after himself better both on and off the field, while he revealed that club veteran and 112-times capped UAE international Ismail Matar has played a part in his growth.
“In the beginning when I went into the first team I was hesitant and a bit scared, but then I got involved more with the team and I got to understand the team,” he said.

“I also got lots of advice from Ismail Matar. Confidence played a role and that is why I have reached where I am.
“I understand the team better now even though the team went a little downhill. I am very proud to have got to where I am. It’s all about self confidence.
“To be in a really good position I have had to take good care of myself, not only on the pitch but off it too. I have worked hard, doing more training and with nutrition too.
“These are some of the things I have done to improve myself and my performances.”
