Hazratullah Zazai put himself into the record books by becoming the first batsman to score a century in the Afghanistan Premier League.
The 20-year-old batsman smashed 124 from 55 deliveries as Kabul Zwanan thrashed Nangarhar Leopards by seven wickets at Sharjah Stadium.
Zazai, who only made his international T20 debut for Afghanistan in August, scoring 74 and 82 against Ireland, was in blistering form on Tuesday night.
Chasing a competitive total of 188, which was largely thanks to 94 from Anton Devcich, Zazai hit the ground running from the word go.
In his opening over, he hit a four and a six, before going even better with three fours and a maximum off New Zealand’s Mitchell McClenaghan in the next over. International team-mate Mujeeb ur-Rehman was then on the receiving end, conceding two sixes and four in his over.
He brought up his fifty off just 17 balls and scored his century in the 10th over with a boundary. Zazai went on to share a 144-run stand with Luke Ronchi (26), who was largely a spectator as the Afghani let the bat do the talking in style.
Zazai’s superb innings was ended by interim captain Ben Cutting. His 124-runs came from 55 balls, including 12 fours and nine sixes.
By that time, Kabul were well above the required run-rate and four leg-byes from Javed Ahmadi sealed the win with 13 balls to spare.
Earlier, Leopards reached 188-5 with Devcich scoring an unbeaten 94 off 58 balls.
