Bangladesh’s Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan is reportedly under investigation by the ICC for not reporting previous illegal approaches by bookies. The ICC is, however, yet to press any charges against the star all-rounder so far.

Once the investigation is complete, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) will send its final report to the ICC’s senior-most legal counsel, who will then decide on whether to press charges or not. On being charged, the player can then either admit to his guilt or contest the charges. If the player accepts the charge, a sanction is agreed upon before the news is made public.

If the player decides to contest the charge, an independent tribunal is set up to adjudicate.

Shakib, who led the first-class cricketers in the country on a strike against the Bangladesh Cricket Board last week, has missed most of the training sessions and is yet to officially explain his absence.

Bangladesh haven’t announced their Test squad for the upcoming tour of India next month. Shakib was named captain of the T20I squad earlier, but considering the ongoing investigation and with the BCB president Nazmul Hassan hinting that a few players might pull out at the last moment, it remains to be seen if the all-rounder will lead the team in India. The squad for the T20I series, which starts on November 3, is expected to depart for India on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old is also expected  to reply to the showcause notice issued by the BCB for a violation of a central contract clause. He got into trouble when he signed a contract with a rival company of the team’s title sponsor.

Shakib is the  No. 1 all-rounder in T20Is, according to the ICC player rankings and is highly sought after in franchise cricket around the world.
