Days after being released by his Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, Chris Lynn broke the record for the highest individual score in the Abu Dhabi T10 league while playing for the Maratha Arabians against Team Abu Dhabi.
The big-hitting Aussie opener finished just nine short of the first ever century in the tournament’s history as he smashed nine fours and seven sixes in an unbeaten knock that lasted 30 deliveries.
In the seventh over, he notably smashed Harry Gurney for 24 runs, hitting two sixes and three fours.
The 29-year-old broke the record set by Alex Hales in the previous edition when the English opener scored 87.
After going on a rampage in the seventh over, Lynn was kept away from strike in the remaining three overs by his big-hitting batting partner Adam Lyth who scored 30 off just 18 deliveries and so was denied a century.
“Obviously when you get a bit closer, you want to get [to a hundred],” Lynn said. “But the guy at the other end [Lyth] was hitting boundaries as well. So to get 138 on that wicket was a really good job.
“It would have been nice to get the first hundred of the T10 but that’s the way it goes and there are plenty more games in this tournament to try and get another opportunity to do that. We’ll just see what happens.”
The Maratha Arabians ended up winning the match comfortably by 24 runs after posting a mammoth total of 138 for two.
