  • Boult remains one of the best seamers in the business.

New Zealand’s pace spearhead, Trent Boult is expected to miss the second Test in the ongoing series against England due `to a side strain.

During the fifth day of the first Test, Boult felt sharp pain in his ribs and left the field after bowling just one over. He is scheduled to have an MRI scan tomorrow to determine the extent of the injury.

“At this stage not sure,” captain Kane Williamson told reporters when asked about the left-arm fast bowler’s injury. “He has a scan tomorrow and he is sore at the moment.

“Hopefully the scan comes back clear but we’ll have to wait and see.”

The Kiwis have capable replacements for the 30-year-old Boult in their Test squad in Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry. The second and final Test of the series against England begins on Friday at Hamilton.

The hosts lead one-nil in the series, courtesy of the innings victory they achieved on Monday at the Bay Oval. After BJ Watling’s double-ton and Mitchell Santner’s maiden century helped them claim a huge first innings lead, Neil Wagner picked up a fifer on the final day of the Test to seal the victory.
